*** Press Release ***

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), which manages transportation in the City, including the Municipal Railway (Muni), has announced that due to a delay in the delivery of track components from the manufacturer, track replacement work for the Church & Duboce Track and Street Improvement Project, originally scheduled for the Nov. 4 weekend, will be rescheduled to take place in early 2012. This work is part of the Church & Duboce Track and Street Improvement Project that began this spring. It will ensure a safer, more reliable transportation network by replacing worn infrastructure and keeping Muni in a state of good repair. The overall project schedule will not be affected.

During the first partial J Church rail service shutdown over the Oct. 21 weekend, crews successfully installed a rail crossover on Church Street, south of Market Street.

The Church & Duboce Track and Street Improvement Project will require multiple partial rail service shutdowns and substitute shuttle bus service on the J Church and N Judah Muni Metro Lines during the nearly two-year construction period ending in 2013. There will also be a partial shutdown of the F Market & Wharves and J Church lines and reroutes of the 22 Fillmore, 37 Corbett and N Owl bus routes. The SFMTA will update Muni customers as details regarding these routes are finalized. Project construction will also require street and bike lane closures and detours during the different phases of construction.

In addition to the individual line shutdowns slated for weekends, there will be a nine-day partial shutdown of both the J and N lines tentatively scheduled for May 2012 to replace the curved track at the intersection of Church and Duboce streets.

The SFMTA will continue to provide project updates to residents, customers and merchants on an ongoing basis.
