Release date: 4/8/11 *** Press Release ***The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), which oversees all surface transportation in the City including the Municipal Railway (Muni), encourages baseball fans to take Muni, taxis, walk or bike to the San Francisco Giants Opening Day at AT&T Park, Friday, April 8. The game will start at 1:35 p.m. An Opening Day crowd of more than 42,000 fans will attend the first home game of the World Championship San Francisco Giants 2011 Season. Transit **Update** Due to the expectation of large crowds today, the SFMTA will deploy additional Muni bus shuttles from AT&T Park after the game. The shuttles will operate between Townsend and King streets and Market and Spear streets. Parking Control Officers and Transit Fare Inspectors will be on hand to direct fans to the buses and the regular light rail service. The following Muni service is available to and from all home games:
Baseball fans transferring from BART may purchase pre-paid fare (round trip) at the Embarcadero Station. One-way transfers can be purchased at the AT&T Park ticket windows two hours prior to the game and after the sixth inning. The SFMTA will schedule six additional Metro “baseball shuttles” to supplement the existing N Judah and T Third service to the ballpark. The additional service begins two hours prior to the game and continues until approximately 20 minutes after the start of the game. More details about Muni service to AT&T Park, including connections from other Bay Area transit systems, can be found at www.sfmta.com. Traffic As the game may end during the Friday afternoon commute, motorists should expect heavy traffic on freeways and streets near AT&T Park and on all approaches to the Bay Bridge on Friday afternoon. Taxi Zones The SFMTA has created a new taxi zone serving AT&T Park that is in effect on event days only. Existing taxi zones will continue to serve AT&T Park customers on event days.
Bicycles The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition operates a secure bike parking facility at AT&T Park. Bicycle parking is located on the south side of the ballpark, along the PortWalk, and opens two hours before every game and closes 30 minutes after each game. As many as 20 SFMTA Parking Control Officers (PCOs) will also contribute to the ease of getting to and from the game. Prior to each game, these PCOs are deployed to key locations around the ballpark to facilitate pedestrians, transit vehicles and other traffic. |
