Release date: SFMTA Board of Directors Approves New Transit Shelter Agreement *** Press Release ***The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) completed negotiations with Clear Channel on the new Transit Shelter Advertising Agreement and presented it to the SFMTA Board of Directors today for their approval. Following a presentation on the new contract, public comment, and discussion, the SFMTA Board authorized Nathaniel P. Ford, Sr., Executive Director/CEO, to execute the new Transit Shelter Advertising Agreement with Clear Channel Outdoor, Inc. (Clear Channel) pending approval by Port Commission and the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. In addition, The designs for the transit shelters and kiosks must also be approved by the Arts Commission. SFMTA and Clear Channel are working closely with the Arts Commission. “Thanks to the diligence of our selection committee and our negotiators, the SFMTA has reached a comprehensive and fair Agreement. I am especially pleased that the Agreement provides a balance between a strong revenue stream and appropriate controls and oversight,” commented Mr. Ford. The new Transit Shelter Advertising Agreement leverages the strong asset of advertising along San Francisco’s transit routes and presents the best deal for Muni customers and the City. The Agreement negotiated by the SFMTA guarantees a minimum payment from advertising revenues to the SFMTA of not less than $15.3 million per year for 15 years. Mayor Gavin Newsom added, “This negotiation of an agreement which clearly benefits the Agency and the citizens of San Francisco sets the tone for the future of the SFMTA. By ensuring a strong and much needed revenue stream while presenting the public with new, state-of-the-art shelters which includes strict guidelines for maintenance will improve both the riding and boarding experience of transit patrons. I look forward to a thorough review of the agreement by both the Port Commission and the Board of Supervisors, and its approval later this year.” |
