SFMTA Calls for Public Input with Strategic Plan Survey
Public involvement essential for San Francisco’s transportation future

San Francisco The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), which oversees all surface transportation in San Francisco including the Municipal Railway (Muni), today announced that it seeks public input as it updates the Agency’s 2008 – 2012 Strategic Plan.  The Agency invites the public to complete a survey at www.sfmta.com/strategicplan/survey. The results will help shape the City’s future transportation priorities.

“The SFMTA has long played a role in the economic and cultural vitality of the City,” said Tom Nolan, Chairman of the Board of Directors. “We look forward to working with the public to continue to improve San Francisco’s transportation system.”

“As we strive to overcome current economic difficulties, we have an obligation to also look to the future,” said Nathaniel P. Ford Sr., Executive Director/CEO. “Transportation in the City will grow and change in the coming years and we want to ensure that it works for all San Franciscans.”

At today’s SFMTA Board of Director’s meeting, the Agency asked stakeholders and residents in San Francisco and the Bay Area who care about the future of transportation in San Francisco to weigh in with their priorities and preferences for transportation planning. The conversation the Board began at today’s meeting will continue at future public meetings and through this online survey. The survey poses questions about mode use and preferences to help gauge San Francisco’s transportation needs.

San Francisco’s transportation policies and infrastructure have long been shaped by its residents through voter mandates and campaigns. This discussion must include public input and the SFMTA will continue to ensure that ample opportunity is provided to those who wish to help shape the future of transportation in San Francisco.
