Tomorrow, the SFMTA Central Subway Project in conjunction with LIUNA will host the most highly regarded tunneling and underground contractors from around the world at a conference to receive informational briefings on the project and the five upcoming construction packages totaling over $700 million dollars. The construction packages include:
This package involves constructing tunnels using tunnel boring machines and includes a launch box and extraction shaft.
This package involves constructing a 200 ft station that is 50 ft deep in the South of Market Area.
This package involves constructing a station reaching a depth of 100 ft which will have a direct connection to BART and the other Muni underground lines at the Powell Street station.
The package specifies the Sequential Excavation Method (SEM) to construct a station that will be 60 ft under the congested Chinatown area.
This package is to construct trackwork, systems and a surface station at 4th and Brannan streets. In addition to the largest contracting firms from the U.S., the SFMTA has confirmed the attendance of international companies representing Spain, Japan, Italy and Germany.
