Release date: September 6, 2012 *** Press Release ***Copy of Sunday Streets Route and Program Map (.pdf) attached This coming Sunday, September 9, Sunday Streets returns with the third annual Western Addition, North Panhandle, Alamo Square Sunday Streets. For the second year, Sunday Streets coincides with the final day of International Artists Week, a weeklong celebration of local artists in the Fillmore neighborhood. Other activities include Sunday Streets favorites such as the Black Rock Roller Disco (fresh from Burning Man), live music, free bike tune-ups and rentals, dance lessons and live music along the 2-mile route. “Sunday Streets showcases our City’s commitment to sustainability and innovation, and has also proven a cost-effective way to improve the health of San Franciscans,” said Mayor Ed Lee. “We are committed to ensuring the program’s continued growth and success in 2012 and beyond.” “San Francisco residents, merchants and visitors have enthusiastically embraced Sunday Streets and are consistently asking us for more of these kinds of programs,” said Edward D. Reiskin, SFMTA Director of Transportation. “We are proud to introduce a new element to Sunday Streets by testing a regular car-free route through one of San Francisco’s most populated and diverse neighborhoods.” Sunday’s event includes three distinct neighborhoods in the Western Addition; Fillmore Street, Alamo Square and North Panhandle. The route connects with the Panhandle multi-use path at Central Avenue, traveling through the North Panhandle neighborhood along Central Avenue, Grove, Baker to Fulton streets. It then continues past Alamo Square Park and the iconic Painted Ladies Victorian row houses, connecting to the Fillmore merchant corridor from Fulton Street to Geary Boulevard. *Activities at the September 9 Sunday Streets event include: Main hub: Fillmore and O’Farrell streets

*Activities subject to change Sunday Streets is presented by the SFMTA and Livable City, Sunday Streets’ nonprofit fiscal partner responsible for the day-to-day management of the program. The 2012 season is co-presented by Bank of America. Additional support is provided by: AT&T, Bay Area Air Quality Management District, Blue Shield of California, Kaiser Permanente, Mikes Bikes, Recology, REI, Shape Up SF, Sports Basement, United Healthcare Workers West Bi-Rite Markets, SF Travel, and Clif Kids. Major resources and support for Sunday Streets comes from The Mayor’s Office, San Francisco Police Department, Department of Public Works, Department of Public Health and the Recreation and Parks Department, The American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter, which provides emergency medical support, City CarShare provides staff use of their vehicles and Parkwide LLC provides free bike rentals to participants during Sunday Streets and Recology provides waste management at each event.
