To help close a projected budget deficit of $129 million, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) Board of Directors adopted an Amended Fiscal Year 2009-2010 Operating Budget which includes a range of actions – Muni service changes, increases in transit fares, parking fees and fines.

The service changes developed in response to the SFMTA’s unprecedented budget deficit do not represent the implementation of the Transit Effectiveness Project (TEP); however, the changes have been informed by the data collected and the extensive public input received during the TEP planning phase. The extensive technical data, analysis and public feedback helped the SFMTA make informed and precise decisions about these service changes and how to provide the best possible service within limited resources.

The package of service changes slated includes discontinuing routes, eliminating segments of routes and decreasing frequencies. These service reductions will be balanced by service enhancements including schedule adjustments, additional service on crowded routes and expanded limited-stop service on Mission and Geary.

SFMTA staff is in the process of finalizing technical adjustments to the package of service changes. Please check back for updates.

Note: Muni vehicles stop only at existing marked Muni stops. Reroutes over streets not normally served by Muni will operate non-stop over those streets. Exceptions to this policy, if any, would be noted above as "temporary stop."

Note: All times shown on this page are for expected effects on Muni service, not for the event or activity itself. Events or activities may start or end earlier or later than the times shown. All times are subject to change based on actual conditions. Reroutes may be added, removed or changed, also based on actual conditions.
