This section contains meeting and other information for the various boards and committees within the SFMTA and related City & County of San Francisco committees.

Note: If you are a citizen trying to accomplish a particular goal, please contact SFMTA staff first following up if necessary with the committee whose specific purpose is closest to your area of interest (transit, walking, bicycling, parking, traffic).

The SFMTA includes the following boards and committees:

The following SFMTA committees and hearings focus on specific areas:

  • The Bond Oversight Committee provides oversight to the SFMTA to ensure that bond proceeds are being spent on permitted purposes and to establish prudent internal controls and practices.
  • Color curb hearings are held twice a month at City Hall to legislate the installation of new colored zones.
  • The Muni Accessibility Advisory Committee (MAAC) is a group comprised of seniors, and persons with disabilities who regularly use Muni's services and provide input on accessibility-related Muni projects.
  • The Paratransit Coordinating Council (PCC) works with the SFMTA in planning and monitoring door-to-door van and taxi services for persons with disabilities.
  • Real Estate Committees are organized as needed to provide community input on specific real estate projects.
  • The Revenue Panel was a 2007-2008 panel to address Muni's funding needs.
  • The SF Muni Improvement Corporation (SFMRIC) was a nonprofit public benefit corporation from 1968 to 2011. It provided financial assistance for the modernization of the San Francisco Municipal Railway by purchasing equipment and improving facilities.
  • The Service Restoration Working Group (SRWG) was a 2010 committee to inform creation of a December report outlining the Agency’s plan to restore the remaining five percent of Muni service hours from the May service cuts which were not restored in September.
  • The Taxi Advisory Council (TAC) will provide diverse representation from all segments of the San Francisco taxi industry to monitor the implementation of the Taxi Medallion Sales Pilot Program and advise the Board on long-term reform. 
  • The Taxi Advisory Group (TAG) (archive) was an advisory passive meeting body that provided input regarding the SFMTA’s Business Merger Plan. 

The following transit-focused committees are overseen by a partnership between the Controller's Office and the SFMTA:

The former Taxicab Commission oversaw taxi operations in San Francisco, prior to that function being taken over by the SFMTA Board. View the Taxicab Commission meetings archives.

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors oversees the following committees that focus on specific areas:

  • The Bicycle Advisory Committee (BAC) meets to consider bicycle transportation projects and policies and to make recommendations to the Board of Supervisors, the Department of Parking and Traffic, and other City and County of San Francisco agencies. Their projects include oversight and facilitation of the five-year Bicycle Plan Update, improved transit access for bicycles, and funding for bicycle improvements to increase road safety.
  • The Pedestrian Safety Advisory Committee meets to consider pedestrian transportation projects and policies and to make recommendations to the Board of Supervisors, the Municipal Transportation Agency, the Citizens Advisory Committee of the Transportation Authority, and other City and County of San Francisco agencies. Their duties include supporting the development of a Pedestrian Master Plan, review and make recommendations on policies and programs related to pedestrian  improvements including, but not limited to, issues of safety, traffic calming, education, and sidewalk and crosswalk treatments.
